Paris, 60 page Business plan lands in trash can, ideas now

1500 Business plans style "copy and paste"

average 60 pages land in the trash can of

Jean Schmitt, managing partner of Sofinnova

European VC capital

Schmitt said that he received 1,500 business plans a year but they're all consigned to the trashcan. He said these business plans were full of "bullsh*t" and were a "complete waste of time". He said: "I don't care if we have a full 60 page business plan - I want people to give us ideas." They were generally speaking full of cut and paste stuff based on financial analysts reports. There are very few original ideas around, he said.

Market Entry Plan

To those who do have bright ideas, Schmitt posed a warning. He said that Sofinnova often ended up with 70 percent or 80 percent ownership. Having only 20 percent of a company was a very frustrating experience, he said. The whole matter is a game of foxes - the VCs - and rabbits, the entrepreneurs. As the foxes get more successful at hunting, supplies of rabbits dry up and the fox population diminishes. That gives the rabbits the chances to breed and multiply again.

Reanult Nissan EVs Singapore
Now Playing: Building an EV economy
Topic: Electric cars

On May 6th 2009, Singapore announced the set-up of a multi-agency task force, jointly led by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA), the agency responsible for public and private transportation. Its aim is to implement an electric vehicle (EV) test-bedding programme which is open to all auto manufacturers and technology companies who have a commitment to the future of electric transport. Expected to run from 2010 through 2012, this programme was given an initial impetus via memoranda of understanding (MoU) signed with Renault-Nissan, who aim to become leading brands in ZEV (zero emission vehicles), and Keppel Energy, a leading power company in Singapore and other jurisdictions. Renault-Nissan will supply EVs to Singapore, and Keppel Energy will develop the infrastructure, including charging stations, to support the test-bedding programme.

The programme will involve key industry participants examining infrastructure requirements and new business models applicable to urban transport solutions for cities like Singapore. It is also expected to identify industry and R&D opportunities that could leverage the testbedding platform. By providing this arena for EVs, Singapore expects to become an attractive showcase for auto manufacturers, component suppliers and infrastructure developers.

For example, the region of Savoie, in Rhône-Alpes, is becoming a leading player in the solar energy sector thanks to the location of the National Institute for Solar Energy (INES) in the Savoie Technolac Science and Technology Park. This institution, the solar component of the Tenerrdis Pôle de Compétitivité, is a collaborative centre of excellence in solar energy technologies and brings together leading research institutions in the field including the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME), the National Scientific Research Centre (CNRS), the French Research and Evaluation Centre for the Building Sector (CSTB) and the University of Savoie. INES is set to expand to accommodate more than 250 researchers this year. The solar companies located in the Savoie cluster range from solar heating manufacturers (such as CLIPSOL) to designers of PV power plants (for example IBC Solar).

Paris,

IMF 2010 Banks $1.5 trillion loss
Banks around the world -- especially in Europe --
still are likely to face additional write-downs of $1.5 trillion
by the end of next year 2010, the IMF said.

Fact List BNP
O French government co-owned Bank (15%)
O Dept, Gov bailout; E5.1bn / $7.5bn
O Bonuses for Employees E1bn
O Interest payment only to Gov E226m for 7 months

Market public dept financing ?
O E4.3bn / $6.3bn new shares ( nouvelles actions)
O Share price: about E40 - 30% discount !
O Discount loss : E1.8bn / $2.6bn

Why selling with 30% loss?
Market overrun with dept and bonds without future,
direction "friend business" - government security

Danger: Wealth-currency-production destruction
The production companies get their credits cancelled
to refinance bankrupt banks. What, for a second round
Bank bailouts, no conditions fixed, destruction of
wealth and currency through non productive,
parallel bank economy restarting Casino gambling
worldwide. IMF says $1.5 trillion bank loss to
expect end of 2010.  Entrepreneurs why go to work ?

 Many Banks will need money
Christophe Nijdem, a banking analyst at Alphavalue in Paris,
called the stock issue’s timing “judicious.”

“They had a window of opportunity,” he said.
“A lot of banks will turn to the market in the months to come,
and it’s first come, first serve.”

Mr. Nijdem added that, compared to American banks, European banks
were more leveraged, and had to play catch up. Major Western banks
are forecast to post losses of almost $2.5 trillion for the
period 2007-2010, according to the International Monetary Fund
